For those looking for a high quality, gluten free protein that's excellent for cooking may I suggest Prograde's Whey Protein powder.
It's formulated using low temperature micro-filtered and ion-exchanged whey protein isolates for unparalleled purity.
It does not contain artificial sweeteners and is naturally sweetened with stevia. It is produced using non-GMO ingredients and is free of growth hormones.
Each serving contains 24g of protein and only 2g of carbohydrates.
It's available in three delicious flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate and Orange.
I've tried several recipes using this versatile and delicious protein powder from smoothies, to cookies to snack sized protein bars and the results have been really impressive.

There's a new gluten free protein powder, with a great twist: half its 30 grams of protein comes from collagen! Along with the muscle building benefits of whey, you get collagen's support of healthy skin, connective tissue and cartilage throughout the body.

Its called Collagen Sport, and its made by NeoCell. It is sugar free, gluten free, lactose free, and does not contain artificial sweeteners, flavors, or fillers. I contacted the company and confirmed it is a GMP facility. NeoCell is family owned, and specializes in collagen products.

Each serving has 30 grams of protein, 123 calories, half a gram of fat. It has vitamins, minerals and pomegranate extract.

I have tried both the Belgian Chocolate and French Vanilla flavors, both are mild and delicious, and mix well with fruit, etc. I find it mixes with a spoon.

Hi Tina,
The fact that is does not contain gluten is a great start, but it doesn't give us a full picture.
Contact the company directly (there should be contact info on the canister) so you can ask about where the product is manufactured. If it is manufactured in a dedicated gluten free facility, then you are good to go. That's unlikely though, so if it's in a shared facility, you then need to ask what measures have been taken to prevent cross contamination.
Let us know what you find out!

Hi There,

I am wondering if the GFR - LeanFit Product: Whey Protein Shake would be okay to take on a gluten free diet.

The ingredient list states: protein blend (whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate), xanthan gum, natural vanilla sucralose, bromelain, amylase, papain and lipase enzymes.

It also states: DOES NOT CONTAIN gluten!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ankit,
I recommend contacting the manufacturer directly. Unfortunately there is no way for me to keep up with all of them around the world! Please post back and let us know what you learn.

It could indeed be a combination of things, a bit of fat gain and perhaps a food intolerance if there's that much of a difference AM to PM. Realistically though, it could just be volume of food and drink throughout the day.

As far as supplements I use:
Health related:
-Vitamin D3
-Super Enzymes (NOW Foods, a nice broad enzyme that I take with large meals)
-Carlson Fish Oil 2 tsp/day
-Calcium/Magnesium

Performance related:
-Creatine Monohydrate
-Branched Chain Amino Acids (before and after weight training, because I train fasted)
-Beta Alanine (hoping this will help with my boxing training)

It's probably from the sedentary thing. I had a long trip to the southeast visiting my family this summer, and by the end of my trip my pants were quite tight.

I do notice that my waist is flat in the morning and quite a bit larger by bed time.

Thanks for the brand recommendation. Do you personally take any supplements on a regular basis?

Hey Amanda!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Garden of Life products! I think the idea of improving your nutritional bang for caloric buck can really never be a bad thing. I do think you are on the right track absolutely as far as eating a variety of foods. I'm not too sold on the whole "superfoods" thing either. Depending on how many fruits/veggies you're getting in while you're in school, the only thing you may want to consider is something like an Emerald Balance, which is very similar to the Amazing Grass (but WAY tastier IMO.) Personally, I like the Emerald Balance Plus a lot-it is chocolate flavor. But even the original Emerald Balance is pretty good. If your veggie intake is down, that might be worth a consideration.
As far as your waist goes, considering your weight is stable there could be a couple things going on:
-bloating-whether from food, drink, water weight fluctuations, or another food intolerance
-body composition change-depending on how sedentary you've been, there is potential for muscle loss with fat gain
The answer depends on which one of those scenarios is more probable. I know personally, my weight and waist can fluctuate quite a bit depending on hormonal cycles, so keep that in mind.
