It’s been a busy week!
“The Gluten Free Effect on Athletes-Improving Performance Through Diet” webinar was Tuesday night, presented by myself in conjunction with the NFCA and sponsored by Blue Diamond.
(Yes, the almond people! How cool is that!)
Almond butter is awesome. Almond butter is like a healthy person’s crack. Stuff is seriously addictive. But I digress.
The webinar went really well, no technical snafus thanks to the ninja-web abilities of Kristin at the NFCA. I lost my voice a bit at the end, so I apologize if it gets a bit scratchy.
I’ve done lots of teaching in person, but this was the first webinar I’ve taught. It was a little weird for me to not be able to see the audience and gauge if I was putting them to sleep! Feedback has been very positive though, so I guess I wasn’t too soporific.
Wendy, my friend at Celiacs in the House was in attendance, and here are her comments:
“Found this very informative and helped solve some of the mysterious injuries, slow healing, fatigue my teen athlete experienced. Also loved that you addressed the drive of the celiac athlete that makes them compete in pain and lots of discomfort which leads to coaches not taking their health issue and pain seriously. Resonated with us. Thanks.
You did a great job and you made some great points about the psychology of the athlete and the celiac that helped explain a lot of what we’ve been going through the last few years. The residual effects of malabsorption and a late growth spurt just compounded the problems for our daughter for track and volleyball and part of why she just dropped out of high school at the beginning of her junior year. Don’t worry. She enrolled in college the very next day.”
The webinar is available for replay here.
Also included is the PDF of the slides, as well as the printable guide to commonly found sports nutrition products and their gluten free status. If I get my tuckus in gear this weekend, the Q&A will go up on Monday. For those of you who submitted questions that we did not get to in the actual webinar (there were a bunch of great questions submitted, thank you for that) I will address them on the next episode of the GFF podcast.
Included in the webinar are some recipes for homemade protein and granola bars.
Here’s that link again to check out the webinar.
Check out the rest of the archived webinars while you are there, the NFCA has, and continues to provide a TON of great information.
